Note
from the President
As your newly elected Wedgefield Homeowners
Association President, I want to take this opportunity
to send you a short note of appreciation. I want to
thank all of the members that were able to attend the
meeting and cast a vote, showing their confidence in
electing me to the position of President. I would also
like you to welcome the two other NEW Board Members that
now serve you: Anthony Grabowski is your new
Vice-President and Pam Goode is your new Director who
will be taking on the responsibilities of enforcing the
Codes and Covenants. An updated listing of all 2012
Board Officers and Directors is located in the last
section of this newsletter.
We have an excellent Board of Directors this year
that will bring different experiences and expertise to
the Board. Most members return from last year’s Board
and the two new members will bring us new ideas and a
fresh perspective to help us foster new goals and create
some long-term plans for our community. If I might
borrow a statement provided by our new Vice-President,
Anthony Grabowski, in his letter of acceptance to our
Directors, “LET’S MAKE IT HAPPEN”! I believe this is an
excellent motto for us to adhere to as we start this
brand new year.
I have been a Director on the WHOA Board for four
years. I volunteered to serve on the Board because I
wanted to get involved in our community to help ensure
that the Wedgefield community remains the BEST PLACE to
live in East Orange County. As your new President, I
want to make sure that we have a strong voice that is
recognized and heard by our Orange County government. I
also want to ensure that our neighborhood remains safe
and that the property and homes we own retain their
value. Our homes, for the most part, are the biggest
investments we will make in our life time – and it’s up
to us to work together to make sure we protect and
safeguard them to the best of our ability. You have my
word that all of my efforts will be dedicated and
directed towards the best interests of the residents of
our Wedgefield community.
On a personal note, I would like to tell you a little
bit about myself and my wife Kay. As high school
sweethearts, we grew up in the same hometown of
O’Fallon, Illinois. We have been married now for over 40
years. For 20 years, I served in the United States Navy
Submarine Service. Kay and I spent the early years of
our marriage living in beautiful Hawaii before we moved
to Orlando. After retiring from the Navy, I started my
next career, working in the Simulation and Training
Defense Industry for over 25 years. I am currently
working for the Social Security Administration here in
Orlando – hopefully my last career. My lovely wife Kay
is a teacher at Hidden Oaks Elementary School, teaching
special needs children. She is also a Mary Kay
Independent Beauty Consultant.
We have two children, both married with families. Our
son Daniel and wife Amy live in Virginia and have given
us four beautiful grandchildren. Our daughter Kim and
husband Todd live in Vermont and have given us two
beautiful grandchildren. Yes, we are very fortunate and
proud grandparents. Our only problem is that they live
too far away.
After our children were grown and married, Kay and I
decided to move out here to Wedgefield. We searched for
property for over a year before finding our beautiful
lot on Quarterly Parkway. As Wedgefield residents of
almost 10 years, we enjoy living out here away from all
the hustle and bustle of the city. We especially love
the variety of wildlife that come to visit us on a daily
basis in our backyard. Kay and I feel very blessed to
live in such a beautiful area.
Upcoming Events:
On February 11th the WHOA is partnering up with
Wedgefield Firewise and hosting the annual Car Show and
our WHOA “Very First” Chili Cook Off. Are you a car buff
or know any? Let them know what’s happening and drag
them along with you. Everyone loves chili, right? Have a
special secret recipe? You could be the Grand-Prize
winner. Come on, show us what you got! All judging will
be done by “official” taster/judges. See the flier in
the newsletter. Come on out and support the WHOA and
Wedgefield Firewise, you won’t be disappointed.
On March 31st we are holding our Annual Garage Sale.
Drag out those old, unused and unwanted items, those
pieces of “junk” and turn them into “treasures” for
someone else. This is the big one, the Huge
One-Day-Only, Complete Liquidation Sale. Every item must
go. Take a look at the flier and sign up early, spots
are moving fast. There should be some real bargains this
year.
It’s a New Year and time to renew your membership!
Our annual membership letter will be going out to ALL
Wedgefield residents soon, encouraging everyone to join,
and to support our great community. I’d like to
challenge you all. Attend our next meeting at the
Clubhouse on Wednesday, February 8th, bring along a
neighbor that has never been a member and encourage them
to sign up and join. Let’s fill up all the chairs at our
next meeting. We need to increase our membership and get
more folks involved in this great community that we call
home.
Take some time to visit our website,
www.wedgefieldhomeowners.com – it’s full of useful
information about our community, our events and what’s
happening. Director Victor Alzona is now our webmaster
and has done a fantastic job of completely transforming
the website. It was just voted “Best
Website-of-the-Southeast” by the WHOA Directors. Also,
if you would like to receive web-based updates of the
newsletter and other community events, send an email to
Victor at thevikter@gmail.com and ask him to put you on
the distribution list. Check it out!
We are now hosting advertising on our website. We
average approximately 24 thousand hits and visits to our
website on a monthly basis, that’s about 800 per day,
not bad for a lesser known community way out here in
east Orlando. The advertising rates are also very
moderate. Do you need to advertise on the
“World-Wide-Web”, or know someone with a business that
might want to? Tell them about us and what we can do for
them. It all brings in needed revenue to the WHOA which
allows us to continue sponsoring and holding our
community events. Help us get the word out! SUPPORT OUR
ADVERTISERS!
Is anyone looking for an outlet, a way to help you
spend your extra time? We have an excellent employment
opportunity available right now: excellent hours, work
from the privacy of your own home and you are only
required to meet for about three hours a month with your
team members, friendly atmosphere, no worries about
taxes (no salary) and you will only have to commit for 2
years. We are searching for a qualified secretary for
our Board. If you’re curious or interested, contact
Helen Unser at 407-568-9659. She can tell you what it’s
all about and what is required. Think about it!
All residents and homeowners are invited to attend
our monthly WHOA Board of Directors meetings. We meet on
the second Wednesday of the month, at 6:30 pm, right
here at the Country Club. There is always an opportunity
for homeowners to discuss neighborhood ideas or issues
with the Board. The General Membership meeting follows
immediately afterwards.
Please take a little time from your busy day to talk
with a neighbor, building a friendship, and helping us
build a stronger sense of community. It takes all of us
working together to make Wedgefield the best that it can
be.
I hope to see you at the next meeting!
Rich
